With funding from the City of Greater Geelong’s Clean Economy Grant program, Rhino Instruments has been able to take our deep research into the viability of reusing lithium-ion cells from discarded consumer battery packs.
The original research was funded by Sustainability Victoria and is now commercialised as the battery management system inside our RM2 industrial temperature monitors.
We use new cells as a default in the RM2 however this option gives the customer the choice of participating in the circular economy by using second life cells in their monitors if they wish.
Over the coming years, we intend to continue collecting data in our test devices to show that correctly chosen second life cells are comparable to new cells and do not noticeably degrade the performance of the RM2.
