Geelong designed and manufactured RM2 launches at AORA 2026

We’ve pulled up the new banners and whipped out the crisp new polos for the official launch of the RM2 today at the 2026 Australian Organics Recycling Association’s National Conference.

As always we like to have a bit of fun at these things to create a talking point and key to that is our full submersion demo aka the fish tank. While the RM2 isn’t an underwater device (as in don’t do this at home folks), we’ve learned the hard way over the years that designing a fully waterproof enclosure is the FIRST job of an agricultural technology product.

To leave a piece of electronic equipment out in the weather permanently it needs to be able to handle the daily cycling of heat from the sun, moisture in the air, heavy downpours and then drying out again. Get that wrong and the data never makes it to the dashboard.

As eye-catching as the fish tank demo is, what it really represents is undeniable confidence in the RM2’s ability to live up to the claims we make. It expresses just how well built our Geelong designed and manufactured agricultural technology is. There really is nothing like it on the market.

A recap in case you’re new to the Rhino Instruments story. We started in Geelong, Victoria and still design and manufacture the RM2 from our base here locally.

What the RM2 does in one sentence: Measures temperature remotely, round-the-clock, with one push of a really nice button.

Why the RM2 is incomparable:

  • Rock solid 3D printed stainless steel enclosure hiding under that beautiful orange powdercoat
  • Integrated solar charging/4G connectivity/GPS geo-location
  • IP67 waterproof rating to handle massive weather events
  • Always on local temperature readout display
  • Patent-pending battery management system for new (default) or second-life (if customer wants) lithium-ion cells
  • Fully repairable K-type thermocouple sensor available up to 1800mm long
  • Other sensing applications possible (please get in touch)

We want to give a big thank you to LaunchVic and Agriculture Victoria who have supported the last 12 months of commercialisation efforts including batch manufacturing, customer trials and now the expo presence.

Prior to this round, Sustainability Victoria funded our breakthrough li-ion re-use research, which made it into the RM2 and resulted in a patent application. We are proof their work had real impact.

City of Greater Geelong who’ve backed us both as a real ongoing customer and also with their Clean Economy grants program over the years.

Finally, if you’re at AORA today or tomorrow please drop past Booth 28 and say hello to myself, Raj or David.
